DISCOVERY / Murano Glass & Living Craft
The glass that catches the light.
Venini’s Tiara Luce uses a quilt-like glass surface to make light tangible. A traditional forming technique becomes something encountered in an ordinary evening.

The surface looks almost padded. Small repeating facets give Venini’s Tiara Luce a quilted appearance, although the material is glass. Switch on the lamp and those facets become part of the light itself, catching and redirecting it across the narrow-waisted form. The texture is not a graphic applied after the object has been made.
The pattern belongs to the material
Francesco Lucchese designed Tiara Luce around the balloton technique. In Venini’s account, hot blown glass is worked in a metal mould to create the raised pattern. The December 2021 Japanese announcement describes amber, grape and grey versions, with a touch-operated dimmer. It is a dated account of the pictured design, not a claim that every present-day version has identical hardware.
This is a useful way to approach Murano glass without beginning with auction prices. A process normally discussed through vases and collecting becomes part of a room that is used each evening. The light makes the material behaviour easy to notice. The lamp can be appreciated as a piece of decorative glass while still being judged on how well it serves the space.
Craft that comes out of the cabinet
See it lit and unlit, then ask about the exact electrical specification, replacement components and care. Confirm the current model rather than assuming an archival photograph describes today’s offer in every country. The enduring part is the application of learned glassmaking to a familiar ritual. That is a more substantial reason to care than a century-old company name, and it does not require the object to be rare or financially appreciating.
