DISCOVERY / Artist Jewellery & Contemporary Niello
A necklace of very small paintings.
Graziano Visintin’s Collier brings gold and dark niello into a sequence of tiny cubes. Recognised in 2026, the work asks you to read a necklace as composition rather than metal weight.

The eye follows a loose line of small golden cubes. Some faces are dark, some catch the light, and others carry irregular marks. Graziano Visintin’s Collier makes a necklace feel like a sequence of very small pictures. The interest lies in their changing relationships, not in counting gemstones.
The gold is the beginning, not the explanation
The two-part work, dated 2025 in the artist’s Klimt02 profile and LOEWE Japan’s announcement, received a special mention in the 2026 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize. Thin gold sheet forms miniature cubes, with niello giving the surfaces their dark, painterly intervention. These are not literally framed paintings. A traditional metalworking material provides the contrast through which the geometry becomes expressive.
Visintin’s broader practice makes the discovery richer than one award. His artist profile places the work among decades of jewellery involving gold, enamel, oxidised silver and geometric form. Comparing those pieces helps explain how an apparently simple arrangement can carry an individual visual language. A necklace becomes a work by someone, rather than a generic quantity of precious material.
Learn the artist’s visual vocabulary
Begin with the artist’s profile and compare a ring, a brooch and a necklace before pursuing a particular acquisition. Ask the artist or a representing gallery about current works, wearability and care. Availability of the exhibited Collier pair should not be assumed. The useful invitation is into contemporary artist jewellery, a field in which scale, rhythm and surface can matter as much as an immediately recognisable luxury name. Its cultural and aesthetic interest is not a financial valuation of the work.
