The mechanical watch that looks like a screen.
Ressence’s TYPE 7 puts an oil-filled display above a mechanical movement. The result invites a different relationship with a watch face, with a second time zone built into the moving composition.

The TYPE 7 can look unexpectedly close to a luminous graphic sitting on the surface of a watch. Yet Ressence has not put a digital screen inside a titanium case. The visual effect begins with an oil-filled display chamber above a mechanical base calibre, a different answer to how time might become visible.
A display with another physical logic
Ressence explains that the upper chamber contains its rotating display module in silicon-based oil. Magnetic transmission carries minute information across a membrane from the base movement. Bellows accommodate changes in oil volume, and the display includes an oil-temperature indication. These are working parts of the optical idea, not decorative complications attached to a conventional face.
The TYPE 7 arrived in 2025 with a titanium bracelet and a second-time-zone indication. Its moving composition asks the wearer to learn another visual rhythm. The maker’s interactive simulator is a useful starting point: follow how the indications relate as time advances rather than judging a single frozen photograph. The blue TYPE 7 N pictured here is distinct from the Black and Cactus versions subsequently presented in 2026.
Learn to read it before choosing it
Handle an example through a retailer and ask about setting, winding and the service requirements of the oil-filled system. An unfamiliar interface is rewarding only if its operation makes sense to you. The lasting attraction is independent engineering serving a particular way of seeing. It is not that every unconventional watch is a future collectible, but that a familiar object can still contain a genuinely different and carefully developed idea.

Oil surrounds the upper display module, not the entire mechanical base movement. The supplied TYPE 7 N press image is not a tested watch or a photograph of the later Black or Cactus variants. Specialist service matters.
