DISCOVERY / Everyday Objects & Replaceable Parts
The seal between mornings.
The familiar Moka Express keeps its place through use. A replaceable gasket and filter make its maintenance easier to understand.
Published 7 October 2026 · WHV · Public-source editorial note
A stovetop brewer becomes familiar through repetition. Fill the base, add coffee, listen for the moment it is ready. The Moka Express has cultural appeal, but the more practical WHV question concerns what happens when a small component wears before the rest of the object does.
The part you do not notice
Bialetti still lists the Moka Express in multiple cup sizes and describes its current use. The same regional catalogue offers replacement gaskets and an aluminium filter for identified sizes. That is a tangible maintenance route, not an abstract claim that the design is timeless. The gasket makes the seal between sections, so the exact fit matters. A part meant for another capacity or model should not be assumed interchangeable.
A new gasket cannot rescue a damaged safety valve, badly distorted threads or an unsuitable pot. Nor does a current spare-parts listing prove perpetual availability in every country. The product photograph shows a current six-cup example, not a diagnosis of a family brewer that has spent years on a stove.
Keep the ritual, check the pot
If you already own a moka pot, identify its size and inspect the seal, filter and overall condition before ordering anything. Follow the maker’s use and cleaning instructions, especially around heat and pressure. If you are choosing a first one, consider the servings you actually make. The durable pleasure here is an affordable daily object that can sometimes be maintained through a precise little part, not a promise of market appreciation.

WHV has not tested or inspected a Moka Express. The referenced replacement kit is a regional current listing and must be matched to exact size and model. A compromised safety component calls for qualified advice or replacement of the pot. No lifespan or resale guarantee is made.
