A headphone with parts to replace.
The Sennheiser HD 600 is interesting not only for listening. Its replaceable pads and cable give an owner specific questions about keeping it in use.
Published 7 October 2026 · WHV · Public-source editorial note
The first component of a headphone to change may be the one touching your head. Pads compress, a cable gets damaged, and a familiar sound can become a less comfortable daily experience. The HD 600 deserves attention because those ordinary changes do not automatically end the relationship with the object.
The parts closest to us
Sennheiser describes an open-back, wired headphone with a detachable cable. Its current product and accessories pages list replacement ear pads for the HD 600 family. The manual provides the model specification and handling guidance. These are more useful facts for a prospective owner than a broad promise that a classic will last forever. The maker has named parts one can actually seek.
An open-back design also has a practical boundary. It lets sound out and admits the room around you, so it may be a poor choice for a train, shared desk or quiet partner. The 300-ohm specification is worth considering with the device that will drive it. We have not compared sound quality, and a product photograph cannot tell us how worn an individual pair has become.
Listen before believing the legend
If you own one, inspect the pads and cable before replacing the whole headphone. If buying used, ask about the exact model, wear, channel balance and availability of the parts in your region. Then listen with your own music and equipment. The WHV case is a continued route to use, not a prediction about resale or an assurance that every future spare will remain in stock.
