Alicja Kwade’s Small Matter of Void, a space between stones.
Five stone blocks make the empty shape they frame as important as the stone itself.
Image: VogelART / Alicja KwadePublished 4 November 2026 · WHV
In Small Matter of Void, each stone block contains part of a space carved from it. Stacking the pieces brings the holes into relation. Study the changing edge between the light passing through and the stone around it. The sculpture gives the absence a shape you can examine.
VogelART published the series in 2026 as twelve unique pieces and three artist’s proofs. The publisher specifies five kinds of stone and says the blocks can be stacked in different configurations. Comparing two photographs can be misleading unless you know whether you are looking at a different configuration or a different example.
The publisher marks the edition sold out. If you encounter an example elsewhere, ask for its certificate, photographs of the complete set and guidance on handling and display. Keep the original documentation with the work.
