Sotheby’s lists its Paris Fine Watches sale for 23 September to 7 October, with an exhibition from 1 to 5 October. The announced scope includes Patek Philippe, Rolex and Audemars Piguet alongside Cartier and Breguet.
A sale like this is useful as a place to compare, not simply a list of names to pursue. Case proportions, dial condition, originality and service history can tell a richer story than a brand ranking.
As individual references become available, our next question is what distinguishes the particular watch: an unusual execution, documented history, a compelling design or an ownership case that survives closer examination.
