Viltier Magnetic, a pendant with two faces.

Malachite on one side, mother-of-pearl on the other. A small Parisian jewellery design makes reversibility part of its appeal.

Jewellery need not announce its most interesting detail from across the room. Viltier’s Magnetic pendant is a small object whose second face changes the decision about how to wear it. Green malachite can turn away to reveal mother-of-pearl.

Two surfaces, one piece of jewellery

The maker lists this version in 18k yellow gold with diamonds. The two-sided construction is explicit in the product specification. Other Magnetic pendants use different stones or omit diamonds, so the collection name is not enough to identify the piece. The photographed malachite-and-diamond version should be matched to its own reference when enquiring.

The design offers a modest but useful kind of versatility. Colour, reflected light and the clothes beneath it change the effect of the same shape. That is a stronger reason to consider the pendant than treating its materials as a miniature investment portfolio. The finished object carries design and labour costs that a gold weight cannot explain.

Choose the stone in person

Try both faces against the clothing you wear most often. Establish whether the chain is included in the quotation and check length, clasp and movement in person. Ask for care instructions appropriate to both inlays and for the procedure if either is damaged. A jewel intended for repeated use deserves a plan for its less hard-wearing components as well as attention to its stones.
