Time has an address

Hine’s Early Landed tradition sends cognac to the United Kingdom after an initial period in Jarnac. In an earlier interview about the practice, Eric Forget describes the different cellar conditions involved. Time is not the only variable. Where the cask spends it is part of the story.

The XO Early Landed introduced in 2025 offers a current route into that idea. La Cognathèque describes it as a Grande Champagne blend whose maturation begins with two years in Jarnac before continuing in the United Kingdom. Its travel-inspired presentation makes the journey visible, but the more interesting thing to investigate is what that journey contributes inside the bottle.

Taste the method, not the scarcity story

This is a reading invitation, not a tasting verdict. Ask a knowledgeable merchant to explain the release and, if possible, arrange a comparison with a Jarnac-matured cognac. A comparison is most informative when the other differences are understood too. Two unrelated bottles cannot isolate climate as if they were a controlled experiment.

For WHV, the value is a surviving production practice that offers a different way to understand an established category. A limited release may make the encounter more particular. It does not establish a profitable secondary market, and an unopened bottle is not automatically the most rewarding way to own it.
