Access is the design brief

The aluminium Bestevaer 36 combines a lifting centreboard with a protected pilothouse. The attraction is a different relationship with shallow water and the shore. For the right owner, that can matter more than another cabin or a longer hull.

The builder's account of owners Frank and Marcel makes the decision concrete. After years with other cruising yachts, they wanted something manageable that could enter shallow water and dry out. They identify those abilities and the pilothouse as reasons for choosing their Bestevaer 36, Alũmina. It is a builder-published testimonial, not an independent sea trial, but it explains a real ownership brief.

Begin with the waters you want to sail

That is the WHV question to bring to a yacht purchase: which possibilities does the design give you that you will actually use? A specialised boat can be valuable because it fits a life unusually well. The same specialisation may make it a poor choice for someone else.

Before commissioning or buying, discuss your cruising grounds, handling expectations, maintenance and total annual costs with appropriate specialists. Drying out still requires suitable ground, conditions and seamanship. Aluminium is not a licence to ignore inspection. The meaningful proposition is access by design, not an assurance that an expensive yacht becomes a sound financial investment.
