The back that kept the camera useful.

A Hasselblad 500 C/M was designed for interchangeable parts. The viewfinder, lens, film magazine and body each have a defined role. The CFV 100C uses that system logic to make a current digital back part of a camera first introduced in another technological era.

An old camera with a current sensor

Hasselblad lists compatibility with most V System cameras made from 1957 onward, including the 500 and 200 series. On a suitable body the back replaces the film magazine while the photographer keeps the waist-level view, manual focus and deliberate operating rhythm of the original camera.

The new part is not nostalgic. Its 100 megapixel sensor measures 43.8 by 32.9 millimetres and adds internal storage, modern colour processing and electronic connectivity. The value mechanism is practical continuity. An older precision body can remain a working tool because a current maker has designed a credible interface to it.

Compatibility is specific

Compatibility still needs an exact check. Hasselblad notes limits across bodies and lenses, and classic configurations remain manual focus. The condition of shutters, light seals, focusing screens and mechanical interfaces matters independently of the digital back.

Before buying the system, decide what you want to photograph and handle the camera if possible. Confirm the exact body, lens and adapter combination. Price a service and test the files. The lasting appeal is not that every old Hasselblad is automatically valuable. It is that a coherent system still gives its owner a meaningful choice of medium.
