A tourbillon in 1.85 millimetres.
Bulgari’s 2026 Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon Platinum puts an elaborate mechanism into an unusually thin whole watch. The interesting constraint is space, not the price of platinum.

The arresting number is 1.85 millimetres. Bulgari gives that as the overall thickness of its Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon Platinum, not simply the height of the movement hidden inside a thicker case. Seeing the exposed mechanism spread across the dial makes the engineering constraint more understandable than the word thin ever could.
Thickness changes the whole arrangement
Announced at Watches and Wonders in April 2026, the platinum version follows the titanium model that received the GPHG Tourbillon Watch Prize in 2025. Bulgari specifies a manually wound movement, 42 hours of power reserve and a 40-millimetre case. It announced a run of ten examples. Those details identify the object, but the edition size is not its intellectual achievement.
A watch this flat invites you to think about arrangement rather than accumulation. The visible components share a tightly constrained surface, so the usual notion of a mechanism as a stack of hidden layers becomes less intuitive. The tourbillon adds motion to that layout. Its presence should not be mistaken for proof that the watch keeps better time than simpler alternatives.
An exceptional object, not a universal recommendation
This is an exceptional horological study rather than an everyday buying suggestion. Ask the manufacturer about handling, service and any opportunity to see the watch, and compare it with less extreme pieces in the wider family. The enduring value of the idea is that a familiar object can be reconsidered through a demanding constraint. Neither platinum nor a ten-piece series establishes future liquidity, durability in every use or a profitable collecting outcome.
