The chassis is the character.
Ariel’s Nomad 2 leaves its structure in view. The next generation is interesting less as a larger power figure than as a thorough reconsideration of a deliberately unusual kind of car.
Published 21 October 2026 · WHV · Public-source editorial note
The bright tubes are not decoration applied to a conventional body. On Ariel’s Nomad 2, much of the structure that defines the car remains visible. Wheels, suspension and occupants occupy a deliberately open arrangement. It makes an unusually direct proposition: the engineering is part of the experience rather than something to hide beneath a familiar silhouette.
Not a styling package
Ariel announced the second-generation Nomad in July 2024 and reported production beginning in March 2025. The manufacturer says only three parts carried over from the first car. A redesigned chassis and Ford-derived 2.3-litre turbocharged engine make it a substantial reworking, not simply a new colour or a more expensive specification of the original machine.
The interest lies in the clarity of the brief. A car can be designed around lightness, visibility and movement across imperfect surfaces rather than the broadest possible set of daily conveniences. That does not make it universally better, and a photograph on loose ground establishes no right to drive across any landscape. A specialised object is most convincing when its limits are understood as clearly as its attractions.
A particular machine needs a particular life
Speak with the manufacturer about the intended roads, local registration, weather exposure and maintenance arrangements. Inspect the individual specification and condition, especially where a car has been used hard. The ownership case rests on wanting this particular experience and being able to support it. Small production and visible ingenuity make a strong discovery, but neither is evidence that depreciation has been suspended.
