DISCOVERY / Contemporary Light Sculpture
Niamh Barry’s Slow Crawl, bronze holding light.
Polished bronze cups light within a suspended sculpture that changes as you move around it.

At first glance, the bronze in Slow Crawl seems to curl around something. As you change position, the light makes the inside of each form more evident. Niamh Barry’s suspended work uses reflection as part of its volume, so the distance between viewer and object keeps changing the composition.
Maison Gerard records the 2025 work in hand-hammered and polished bronze with LEDs. Barry has described its relationship to the contours of the body and to shelter. The structure invites the viewer to notice where the light is held and where it escapes into the room.
A prospective collector needs to consider the space as seriously as the object. Ask to see the work illuminated and unlit, and discuss suspension, control gear, access for service and the exact work’s documentation with the gallery. A suitable installation will give the sculpture room to change through the day.
