DISCOVERY / Compact Mobility & Folding Design
The journey after you park.
Honda’s Motocompacto folds a small seated electric scooter into a remarkably plain rectangle. Its subject is the awkward distance between transport and destination.

Folded, Honda’s Motocompacto looks closer to a small case than a conventional scooter. Seat, handlebar and other projecting parts retreat into a white rectangular body. Unfolded, it becomes a seated electric vehicle. The transformation is interesting because it addresses a part of transport design that performance figures often ignore: what to do with the vehicle when you are not riding it.
Designing the moment between journeys
Honda presented the electric Motocompacto in 2023 and offered it through participating Honda and Acura dealers in the United States. The company specifies up to 15 mph and up to 12 miles of range. Those are manufacturer figures, not a WHV route test, and the compact shape does not make it a substitute for every bicycle or scooter.
The useful proposition is a short connection between parking, a destination and somewhere to store the machine. A vehicle that can accompany another journey may change which trips are practical. That is a different kind of ingenuity from simply adding battery capacity or speed. The paired display photograph makes the relationship between its riding and folded forms immediately understandable.
Compact is not weightless
There is a substantial trade-off: Honda lists a weight of 41.3 pounds, about 18.7 kilograms. Try the lift as well as the ride, and check charging, storage and service arrangements. Local road rules and transport operators’ battery policies need separate attention. Motocompacto earns its place as a sharply defined mobility idea, not a universal commuting recommendation or a forecast of future collectability.
