An archive you can wear.
John Lobb’s 2026 revival of the Lazenby shows how an archive can supply something more useful than a retrospective exhibition.

An archive becomes more interesting when it can leave the archive. For the September 2026 reopening of its Tokyo Midtown store, John Lobb revived the Lazenby, a semi-brogue shoe from its historical repertoire. The photographed black pair has the restrained character of a familiar dress shoe, but its route back into production is the part worth noticing.
A pattern does not have to stay on paper
The announcement identifies black Oxford calf, the 7000 last and a Prestige leather sole. It presents the Lazenby as a store-specific offering. Those particulars prevent the story from dissolving into a vague claim about timeless shoes. A pattern has been selected, matched with a last and material, and made available through a defined retail context.
The wider idea appears in John Lobb’s By Request service, which draws on current designs and an archive of around one hundred styles. Choosing from patterns, leathers and other options can keep manufacturing knowledge in use. It should not be confused with a fully bespoke process that creates an individual last. Nor does an archive connection establish that the Tokyo Lazenby is available through every ordering route.
Custom choices are not the same as bespoke
If the model interests you, ask the store about current availability, fitting and the exact specification before arranging a purchase or trip. For By Request, discuss which existing last actually suits your feet before choosing a finish. The value is an active design memory serving present-day use. A handsome archival reference still needs to work as a shoe, on a particular person, for the occasions they have.
