DISCOVERY / Champagne & Blending Decisions
A place inside a blend.
Bollinger PN AYC21 gives a village and a base year unusually clear billing. The new release is an invitation to understand blending, not confuse a code with a vintage.
Published 21 October 2026 · WHV · Public-source editorial note
A short code can make a wine seem more mysterious than it is. On Bollinger PN AYC21, the letters point towards Aÿ-Champagne and the number towards the 2021 base year. Neither says that every grape comes from one village or every drop from one harvest. Understanding that distinction is the beginning of the pleasure.
The code is a useful clue
This seventh PN edition is made entirely from Pinot Noir, with Aÿ leading the blend and contributions from other villages including Tauxières and Mutigny. Older reserve wines are part of the composition. The Japanese importer announced local shipments from 16 October 2026. That is a documented regional release date, not a claim that the wine first appeared worldwide on that day.
The series offers a way to look past a house name towards the choices behind it. Holding the grape variety constant while changing the dominant place and base year creates a useful comparative question. What remains recognisably Bollinger, and what changes? A comparison will still reflect several variables, including reserve wines and bottle condition, rather than being a controlled test of a single vineyard.
Open a conversation, not a price forecast
If exploring it, keep the technical sheet beside the bottle and compare with another PN edition when practical. Ask a reputable supplier about storage and provenance, particularly for an older release. WHV has not tasted AYC21 and does not repeat the producer’s tasting notes as personal experience. The value here is an intelligible route into the craft of Champagne, one that can be realised by opening and discussing a bottle rather than waiting for a higher price.

AYC21 is a multi-year blend, not a 2021 vintage Champagne. The October date is the Japanese shipment announcement. No tasting verdict, ageing guarantee or market-return claim is made.
