The long seat seems to float above a surprisingly spare rear section. BMW’s CE 04 is recognisably a scooter, but it declines to disguise an electric powertrain as a small petrol machine. Its unusual proportions make the layout worth understanding before the colour scheme receives all the attention.

The silhouette follows a different arrangement

BMW places the battery low in the vehicle and the electric motor between it and the rear wheel. Side access to the storage compartment supplies another particular gesture in daily use. The CE 04 began in 2021, while the maker’s July 2025 announcement describes revised colours and equipment. A continuing design can develop without every revision becoming an entirely new vehicle.

For an urban rider, its most important specification may be the charging arrangement available at home or work. BMW distinguishes standard charging from an optional faster system. Quoted range and charging times depend on the version and stated conditions. They are not a substitute for establishing whether the machine can support a particular week of journeys.

Match the machine to a real route

Try the seating, storage and low-speed handling with an authorised dealer. Confirm the exact model, licence requirements, fitted charger and service arrangements, then investigate battery condition on a used example. The lasting interest is a practical design opportunity made visible. Changing the source of motion can change the shape of an everyday object, rather than simply replacing what sits beneath the same old panels.
