Artematica, beneath the kitchen surface.

Valcucine’s Artematica turns attention from a finish sample to the construction of a kitchen used every day.

A kitchen can be photographed as a single immaculate surface. Living with it is a sequence of smaller encounters: opening a door, reaching for a pan, cleaning an edge and putting everything away. Artematica is worth examining at that closer scale.

Look behind the finish

Valcucine describes the aluminium framework of its doors as a way to carry different surface materials within a light construction. The collection offers a range of finishes and can be combined with the maker’s specialised storage and working elements. The exact installation, rather than a collection name, determines how those choices function together.

The value lies in making a heavily used room coherent. Proportions, reach, hardware and material behaviour can remain important long after a colour stops being fashionable. A beautiful installation also has to tolerate the way its owners cook. Architectural integration is not a substitute for useful storage or accessible maintenance.

Inspect a working kitchen

Ask to inspect a working display, including the back of a door, internal fittings and the junctions around appliances. Obtain a detailed specification, installation responsibility and aftercare terms. Compare replacement access and cleaning requirements for the chosen finishes before accepting a visually persuasive proposal.
