DISCOVERY / Authored Jewellery & Watch Design
A watch that leaves the circle open.
Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe’s bangle watch removes the familiar boundary between jewellery and timekeeping. The open bracelet matters as much as the mirrored face.

Most watches close a strap around the wrist and ask you to read a dial. Torun’s bangle watch leaves the circle open. Its polished face offers almost nothing beyond the hands, and the case flows into the bracelet. It asks to be understood as an object against the body before it becomes a specification sheet.
Jewellery changes the question
Georg Jensen dates the design to 1969 and currently lists a mirror-dial Torun bangle watch. Christie’s has documented an earlier stainless-steel example with the maker’s and designer’s marks. Those records give the design an identifiable author, Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe, and a traceable place in production history. They do not make all versions identical in size, material or movement.
What holds value is the coherence of the gesture. Removing numerals and opening the bracelet changes the social language of a watch without relying on conspicuous complication. Torun’s authorship places jewellery design at the centre of watch culture, rather than treating it as decoration applied to an existing model. Its appeal remains available to anyone who responds to the form and can wear it comfortably.
Fit is not a minor detail
Try the exact size rather than buying from a frontal photograph. Compare the case, bracelet opening, dial and movement with the reference offered, and establish a service route for an older example. Ask whether the bracelet has been altered or over-polished. The historical photograph illustrates the design, not current stock. Neither a distinguished signature nor an auction appearance establishes what another owner will pay later.
