Sori Yanagi’s stainless kettle, a shape to use every day.
A broad-based kettle makes the familiar sequence of filling, lifting and pouring worth a second look.

Follow a complete pour
A kettle earns its place through an unremarkable sequence. Take it from the stove, pour into a cup, set it down and fill it again. The broad body of Sori Yanagi’s stainless kettle sits low on the stove. The handle is above the body, where you can grasp it before tilting the spout towards the cup. These are small decisions that shape every use.
The maker describes the broad base as part of the design for heating water and the form as part of making the pour easier. The more useful comparison is to fill this kettle and another with the same amount of cold water. Notice what your wrist does at the start of the pour, how easily you can stop it and where the kettle lands when you set it back down.
Read the specification beside the sink
The Japanese support catalogue lists 2.5 litres as capacity when full. Read that alongside the safe fill guidance for your version. Check the stove compatibility for the model you are buying and the actual diameter you have room for. A broad base can be welcome on one hob and awkward next to a large pan on another.
The matte and polished versions have distinct finishes. Look at the one you are choosing rather than judging the material through a thumbnail. Notice how the opening lets you see or reach the inside. That matters if you live somewhere where scale builds up and cleaning becomes part of the routine.
Find out what can be renewed
Nihon Yoshokki lists separate lids for the matte and polished kettles, a shared replacement knob and a handle replacement service in Japan. That makes the ownership question unusually concrete. If the knob breaks or a lid goes missing, you have a named part to ask a retailer about.
Ask a local supplier which of those parts it can order and whether handle work would need to go back to the maker. Keep the model details with the kettle. The durable idea is a shape you can use every morning and a repair route you can actually check when one part gives way.
