Savoir Nº2, a mattress you should try in person.

The Nº2 makes a case for buying a bed by the way it is built, fitted and maintained.

The maker’s photograph presents the Nº2 mattress out of its bed frame, where the edge construction can be seen.

The Nº2 is the mattress Savoir associates with the Savoy. Its published construction uses horse tail, wool and cotton. The interest today is in how a made-to-order object like this can be specified and looked after for years of daily use.

Try the mattress on the base you are considering. Spend time in your usual sleeping positions, and compare with and without the topper if the showroom allows it. If two people will use the bed, try it together. The felt difference is more useful than a description of the fillings on their own.

Savoir publishes an upkeep service for the US market. Before committing to a size or tension, ask which services your local supplier can actually provide. Include the practical questions: who will carry it upstairs, how it should be turned and what happens if the fit feels different at home.
