The order of making changes the result

The important invention is the order of work. In the garment-pleating approach described by Miyake Design Studio, the garment is cut and sewn before the pleats are formed. The method allows the finished structure to emerge through pleating rather than merely assembling pre-pleated cloth. Research involving movement, including work with dancers, helped shape the idea.

The current label presents light, machine-washable garments designed for everyday use. That is a concrete link between an innovative process and a life outside the fashion archive. A distinctive surface becomes useful through freedom of movement and manageable care, not only through recognition across a room.

A garment, not just a design reference

Try a piece while walking and sitting, not just standing in front of a mirror. Follow its own care label and assess fit, transparency and condition. The 1993 photograph is historical context, not a claim that those exact garments are currently sold. A well-chosen contemporary piece can make the design idea part of daily life. An archival purchase requires its own evidence of date, authenticity and state of preservation.
