DISCOVERY / Rhum Agricole & Cooperage

Neisson Profil 105 starts with the cask.

The number on this Martinique rhum points towards the treatment of wood, opening a more useful conversation than age alone.

Neisson Profil 105, the regular expression. It must not be confused with Profil 105 Bio or another cask-profile release.

Profil 105 sounds like a code because it is one. It belongs to Neisson’s investigation of cask toasting, a part of spirits production that can be easy to overlook when attention goes straight to age or rarity.

What the number describes

Neisson describes its elevated-under-wood range through work with cooperage, varying the time and temperature of barrel toasting. The regular Profil 105 is listed at 54.2% alcohol and is distinct from Profil 105 Bio. The number should not be read as an age statement or treated as proof that two similarly named bottles are identical.

The WHV case is a modestly scaled education in flavour construction. A specific production decision gives a drinker something to investigate, and can make comparison more rewarding. It does not require an expensive bottle to become an object of speculation. The pleasure remains in the spirit and the understanding around it.

Compare the right expressions

Check the exact expression on the bottle and ask the seller to confirm its origin and condition. Taste before buying where practical, and compare production descriptions rather than relying on a shared brand name. No tasting notes here are presented as WHV’s own sensory findings.
