DISCOVERY / Rum & Maturation

Foursquare Mandamus tells you the sequence.

Ten years in ex-bourbon barrels followed by six in ex-port pipes makes this rum’s maturation story unusually legible.

A cask name on a label can be evocative without explaining very much. Mandamus gives a clearer account of the sequence. It offers a way to think about maturation as a set of decisions rather than a large age statement alone.

Two stages of maturation

Foursquare’s official importer identifies Mark XXIX Mandamus as a sixteen-year-old single blended rum, matured for ten years in ex-bourbon barrels and then six years in ex-port pipes. It lists 57% alcohol and production, maturation, blending and bottling in Barbados. Those details identify this release rather than the wider Exceptional Cask Selection range.

The interesting value is informed enjoyment. A drinker can ask what the second stage contributes and compare it with a different maturation route. WHV has not conducted that tasting, and the importer’s limited-availability notice does not establish a price trajectory or the condition of any retailer’s stock.

Choose the release precisely

Check the exact release name and number, bottle condition and storage provenance. Where available, try a sample before committing to a bottle. The cost should make sense as a drink you want to understand and share, without relying on an assumed future buyer to justify it.
