DISCOVERY / Personal Audio & Serviceability
Meze Elite, beyond the first pair of ear pads.
An open-back headphone from Romania makes long-term ownership part of its design. Replaceable parts matter as much as the first listening session.

The most revealing photograph of an expensive headphone may be the one showing it taken apart. Meze’s Elite has an elaborate exterior, but its longer-term appeal is also in the less glamorous pieces that sit against your skin and eventually wear out.
Designed to come apart
The Romanian maker developed the Elite with Rinaro Isodynamics. Its planar-magnetic driver works within an open-back enclosure, while interchangeable ear pads offer different fits and acoustic behaviour. Meze explicitly describes the chassis as fully serviceable. This is a more useful ownership detail than another unqualified claim to reproduce music perfectly.
Repairability does not make the sound right for every listener. Nor does an expensive driver settle questions of comfort, preferred tonal balance or how much outside noise reaches your chair. An open-back design is a deliberate choice for a suitable listening space, rather than a universal headphone for commuting and shared offices.
Audition it for your own room
Audition the Elite with familiar recordings and the equipment you actually use. Wear it long enough to notice pressure and heat, and compare the supplied pads. Before buying a used pair, inspect the pads, headband, connectors and channel balance. Confirm who handles repairs in your country and obtain a current quotation for major parts. The most persuasive luxury is being able to keep enjoying the object.

Scope of this reading
Serviceability is the manufacturer’s stated design provision, not a lifetime parts guarantee. WHV has not conducted a listening test or compared repair costs across countries.
