The value of doing the changing.

The 2026 Lotus Emira V6 SE keeps a manual gearbox at the centre of a modern sports car. Its case begins with participation, not a prediction that it will become collectible.

There is a difference between a car changing gear quickly and a driver choosing the moment, moving the lever and releasing the clutch. The Lotus Emira V6 SE makes room for the second experience in a contemporary sports car. That is a more useful starting point than calling it a future classic.

Participation is a specification

The 2026 model pairs a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 with a six-speed manual transmission. Lotus also sells other Emira powertrains, so the name alone does not identify the driving experience. The V6 SE is the concrete subject here, rather than an interchangeable image of any Emira or a claim about the entire range.

Its WHV relevance is experiential. Some owners want a machine that asks them to practise a skill, not merely select a mode. A manual gearbox does not make every journey better, nor does it prove superior engineering in every respect. It preserves a particular kind of participation that can remain rewarding after the novelty of a new car has gone.

Buy the experience with the costs visible

Drive the exact specification and consider your real roads, storage and service access. Establish warranty terms, maintenance costs, insurance and the consequences of track use before buying. If depreciation matters, compare actual transactions and ownership costs rather than treating a manual transmission as financial protection. We have not established a resale forecast. The defensible attraction is the experience the car offers now, with its expenses and limitations understood.
