Daher TBM 980, read the flight deck.
Daher’s 2026 turboprop gives an owner a concrete reason to reconsider the cockpit workflow alongside the trips it needs to serve.

An aircraft’s headline speed tells you little about what a busy moment in the cockpit feels like. For the TBM 980, introduced in January 2026, the change to Garmin’s G3000 PRIME avionics is the part of the story worth following. Daher describes larger flight displays and a touch-enabled interface. These are changes a pilot can evaluate in a demonstration of the actual flight deck.
Daher retained the PT6E-66XT engine and five-blade Hartzell propeller from the 960 while updating the avionics and cabin. That continuity makes this a useful case for comparing successive models. Ask what the revised controls mean for a typical flight, what training the change calls for and whether the cabin improvements matter to the people who travel with you.
Start with an actual trip and work through it with a qualified operator or instructor. Use realistic passengers, baggage, runway and reserves. Then ask about training, maintenance and the support available at the aircraft’s intended base. That is where the value of a cockpit update becomes legible.
