DISCOVERY / Portable Lighting & Glass
Bocci 118p, a small light with an inner landscape.
A rechargeable light brings Bocci’s experiments with molten glass to the scale of a bedside table. Its interest is inside the globe.

A lamp can become part of the rhythm of a home. You move it from the desk to the dinner table, turn it down, then notice something in the glass that was invisible when it was off. Bocci’s 118p invites that kind of repeated attention. Its small globe contains a feathered interior that seems almost botanical.
Glass shaped by air
Bocci describes the 118 series as the result of introducing air into molten glass to produce fine, branching impressions. The portable version brings that process into a rechargeable light with three dimming levels and USB-C charging. It does not require the ceiling installation associated with the company’s larger arrangements.
The interesting purchase is a piece of glassmaking you can live with at close range. The differences between individual globes belong to the process. They should be examined in the actual light you intend to buy, both illuminated and switched off, rather than treated as defects or as automatic evidence of rarity.
Keep the light useful
Portability also introduces an ordinary ownership question into an unusual object. Ask the dealer about battery replacement, servicing the light source and replacing damaged glass. Check the light at its lowest setting and whether it gives the atmosphere you want. A beautiful globe earns a lasting place when the hardware behind it can be looked after.
