A building encountered through time

At La Tourette, the Dominican convent designed by Le Corbusier near Lyon, guests can book stays in individual former friars' cells. The convent describes rooms shaped by the Modulor, with their own washbasins and loggias facing nature. Showers and toilets are shared. This is a living religious setting, not a luxury hotel dressed in architectural language.

That simplicity is central to the invitation. Light changes while you remain in the same place. The distance between a room and a shared space becomes something travelled rather than a line on a plan. A famous building can become an experience of proportion, routine and restraint.

Living heritage without hotel theatre

At the time of checking, the convent published a rate of €63 per person per night including breakfast. Availability, meal arrangements and access requirements should be confirmed directly. Guided visits are separately booked, so an overnight reservation should not be treated as an all-access architectural tour.

The WHV case is not a financial asset. It is access to a significant work through a continuing use that gives the building a life beyond being photographed. For the right visitor, a modest room can yield something more durable than a more expensive but interchangeable night away.
