DISCOVERY / Ritual & Landscape Architecture
Ziedlejas, a Latvian ritual given rooms.
Open AD builds distinct settings for Latvian pirts in the landscape near Sigulda.

From outside, the small buildings at Ziedlejas can look like variations on a rural cabin. Inside, the materials and relationship to the landscape are different enough to give each pirts its own character. The Wool Pirts and Glass Pirts are parts of one site with distinct atmospheres.
Open AD’s project is best understood through the transition between buildings. The guest rooms frame a view and offer somewhere to retreat. The ritual buildings are set up around heat, water and a sequence led by a practitioner. That separation allows the practice to shape the architecture.
The operator lists accommodation and pirts separately. Ask about session length, language, heat and the amount of guidance you want when booking. A photograph can show the way a building sits in the grass. The reason for going is to experience how it is used.
