BAC Mono, a car designed around one person.

The single-seat Mono makes an unusually precise offer. Its value depends on whether that focused experience has a real place in your life.

Most performance cars try to accommodate several lives. They offer a fast drive, a passenger seat, luggage space and a degree of everyday comfort. The BAC Mono begins with one person. That decision explains more about the car than a headline power figure does.

One seat changes the brief

BAC’s account of the first customer delivery of its new-generation Mono in 2023 documents a car specified for a Californian owner after its Monterey presentation. The open, single-seat layout makes the driver’s relationship with the machine unusually direct. The photograph here shows that generation, rather than a later model inferred from the manufacturer’s current navigation.

The attraction is the concentration of the experience. For someone who already has everyday transport, a car with a tightly defined purpose can make more sense than another broadly capable sports car. Equally, the same focus can make it an expensive object that rarely leaves the garage. A commissioning story is only persuasive if the car is actually used.

Plan the driving, not only the specification

Begin with the roads, climate and track access available to you. Confirm local registration, insurance, servicing and transport arrangements with the factory. Try the seating position and access before ordering. Low production is worth understanding, but it does not establish liquidity or appreciation. The honest case is for a particular kind of driving, chosen with its limitations in view.
